Why am i an actor?

Being an actor is a crazy life choice. It’s full of uncertainty, constant rejection, judgement of your  personality and physical appearance, vapid ostentation, and you can forget about any semblance of a “normal” life. So why do I keep doing this? Sounds kind of awful right? I keep doing this because telling a story and seeing how it can literally transform lives somehow makes all this collateral bullshit worth it.

I recently read a quote by Voltaire that says “doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd”. And I think it sheds some light into why I do this. In a world of dogmatic morality and oversimplification for the sake of productivity, we need spaces that allow us to take time to explore these doubts. We all need opportunities to come together and explore the gray liminal spaces of our humanity. Spaces that remind us that we are not alone.

So that’s why I’m an actor. Or who knows? Maybe I’m just stubborn.
